For Think about it Thursday I am posting a painting (not done yet) that I am donating to Kansas City Artist Coalition's (KCAC) Annual Fundraiser. It is part of the 7 Deadly Sins Series (or I might name the series Vice) #5 Wrath. I kinda like Vice #5 Wrath for a title, it's a little shorter, though 7 Deadly Sins is more well known. (Vices - Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, Pride) I've made 2 of the masks for the series already - Wrath & Pride. I am going to do a series of Virtues next. Okay, I am wandering.
Anyway, I've added symbolism in this painting but I wanted to hear what you think about wrath and what symbolism you see. Think about it.

I think of some people I know that when they are mad or wrathful that they are just spinning and out of control, like the background.
When I see the image of the mask you have painted along with the topic of wrath and the seven deadly sins I think the Joker, the Deceiver, and the Liar. They wear their mask laughing at us all with the uncontrolled denial of the truth.

Wow, I love this painting. Maybe that's a bad thing, haha. The colors are so strong. Maybe one of the messages I take from it is that things that can harm us sometimes look appealing, so we have to be careful not to fall into that trap.

Looking at your painting today, I notice the motion trails. As if they are flames fanned with the furry of wrath.

I think it's a wonderfull painting. I love the color and everything. It also reminds me of the joker.
the dark tones are the dominate feature, and the color wrath brings. Yet, we excuse it because of the lure, attraction, temptation and beauty of gold and the strength of the straight lines on the mask.
People adopt wrath (for others) as they pursue "gold" of the world with the ever-so-subtle melody of bells that draw us near.
The use of red tones adds to the "power" wrath has in a subtle consumption.
The eyes remain dark, like the soul of wrath.
The texture around the face of the mask...are those "burr-like" or "hook-like" that digs in if left unchecked?
I agree with the others on the sweeping use...
Something is coiling up and around the stem...much like this vice: what might begin as an instinct, left to develop can become a consuming, luring, attractive (justified) characteristic.
It's stunning.
